    Sleep Mode at Churchill Square

Churchill Square joins Ingka Centre’s global campaign to promote sleep and its benefits for health and well-being

While many have come to consider a good night's sleep as a luxury, Ingka Centres and Churchill Square believe it is a necessity and something that must be prioritised to maintain our health and wellbeing.

The UK’s Mental Health Foundation found that 48% of adults said that poor sleep negatively impacted their mental health.

Advice from the NHS suggests that a healthy adult needs between 7 and 9 hours sleep a night with teenagers, children and babies needing more sleep as they are still growing. A study published in the BMJ Open found that 16-24 year olds in the UK are the most sleep deprived, with 37% reporting less than seven hours sleep per night.

No matter our age, sleep plays an indispensable role in all our lives, impacting our physical health and mental wellbeing. In fact, when we sleep and “do nothing” our bodies are rebooting many of its systems and carrying out maintenance - it’s like our body is pampering itself and boosting our general wellbeing.

In a bid to educate and encourage people to reconnect with their bedtime rituals, Churchill Square is offering the following activities every day from Monday 21st October – Sunday 3rd November:

    • Bedtime stories - Children are invited to Churchill Square from 12pm – 1pm to hear bedtime stories read aloud. These will be read by Ms Suzie Sweetdreams and will include breathwork sessions for all ages

    • Kids masterclasses to make dream catchers - Children are invited to get artistic and create the ultimate sleep accessory between 1pm - 3:30pm

    • Kids masterclasses to write their own bedtime story - Children are invited to use their imagination and write their own bedtime story between 3:30pm – 4:30pm

    • Dream Decoders - Always wondered what you were dreaming about? Come to Churchill Square to check out our Dream Decoder

To encourage people to reconnect with their sleep, Churchill Square is launching a series of FREE activities designed to highlight the importance of a good night's rest.

These are just a few of the activities we’ve dreamed up to help you activate your Sleep Mode and get the very best rest.

This comes as according to Mental Health UK, 66% of adolescents agree that a lack of sleep negatively impacts their mental heath, and almost 1 in 5 people in the UK aren’t getting enough sleep.

Ingka Centres' Meeting Place Manager, Mark Buchanan Smith "We're excited to bring our new Sleep Mode activities to communities, helping people understand the importance of a good night's sleep! Sleep is key to feeling great and staying healthy - but many of us aren't getting enough rest. Through our fun and practical activities, we hope to bring people together to learn how to sleep better and connect, all while aiming to create a healthier, more balanced life for everyone.”

From Monday 21st October – Sunday 3rd November, you can visit Churchill Square and take part in our free Sleep Mode activities.
